Dua For Nazar

Nazar Ki Dua: Prayer to protect from evil eye and my own story

Dua For Nazar, In my childhood, my grandmother used to say – “Son, when someone praises you too much, immediately take the name of Allah. Otherwise, you will get evil eye.” At that time, I used to think that grandmother probably thinks a little too much. But one day I had such an experience myself which changed my thinking.

The story is very funny and a little embarrassing too. It so happened that the result of my class came in school. I had topped for the first time. All the teachers were praising me, friends were saying – “Yaar, you turned out to be a genius.” I was also flying high. But that same week, I suddenly got high fever, I was not able to understand anything properly. Grandmother immediately said – “See, I told you, you have got evil eye.” And then she threw chillies on me and burnt me. It felt strange, but to tell you the truth, the fever really went away in a few days.

From that day onwards, Nazar and prayers to protect oneself from it were not just stories for me, but became a part of my life.

Now think, how many times this must have happened to you too – when you are looking very good, suddenly you start feeling headache or tiredness after someone praises you? Sometimes the child at home looks very cute, and after a while he starts crying? This is the effect of Nazar.

So today I will share with you those things which I have learnt from my experience, elders and the teachings of Islam – prayers for Nazar, easy home remedies and stories that soothe the heart.

What is Nazar and why does it happen?

Nazar is commonly called “evil eye”. Meaning, when a person looks at you and he feels jealousy or desire in his heart, then his Nazar can affect your condition.

Many people consider it a superstition, but the truth is that Nazar is mentioned in both Quran and Hadith. The Hadith clearly states: “Nazar Haq Hai.” That is, its existence is truth.

Think about it, we are humans, sometimes wrong thoughts come to our mind. We could be envious of someone else’s success, fortune, beauty, or kids. And sometimes, this jealousy affects us without even wanting it.

Have you ever noticed, when someone praises you a lot and then soon after that something goes wrong? This is the effect of nazar.

Blessings of Nazar (from the Quran and Hadith)

Whenever we praise someone or see something good, we should say –

“ما شاس الله لا قوتا يلا بالله” (Ma Sha Allah La Quwwata Illa Billah)
Meaning – “As Allah wills, there is no power except Allah.”

Saying this lessens the evil eye’s impact.

To protect children and oneself from evil eyes, this prayer is recited:

“أعوذ بكلمات الله التامة من كل شيطان وهامة ومن كل عين لامة.”
(Auzu bikalimatillahi tammati min kulli shaitanin wa hammah wa min kulli ainin lammah)

Meaning: “I seek refuge from every devil, every poisonous creature, and every evil eye in the faultless words of Allah.”

I remember, my mother used to console me and my brothers and sisters by reciting this prayer every night. At that time, we thought it was just a ritual, but now we understand how important it is.

Simple and do-it-yourself methods for avoiding the evil eye

There are many famous home remedies to ward off the evil eye in our society. And believe it or not, many of them are really effective.

  1. Rolling red chillies – Grandma often rolled red chillies over us and threw them in the fire. It is said that if the chilli crackles and burns too much, then the person is under evil influence.
  2. Salt or mustard oil – It is also common to roll salt or oil over someone and throw it.
  3. Applying black tilak – A black tilak is applied on the ears or cheeks of small children so that they do not get affected by the evil eye.
  4. Smothering with water – Reciting a prayer from the Quran on someone and blowing into water and making them drink that water or bathing in it is also a way to ward off the evil eye.

I remember, whenever I fell ill in my childhood, Grandma would sometimes burn chillies and sometimes apply black tilak. We would laugh too, but it would give a sense of peace from the heart.

Dua and faith to protect yourself from the evil eye

Finally, the biggest way to protect yourself from the evil eye is to remember Allah and have faith in Him.

  • Reading Ayatul Kursi
  • Keep on remembering Allah
  • All these protect us from the effects of the evil eye.

No matter how much praise, fame, wealth you get in life, you should always remember in your heart that everything is given by Allah. When we say Ma Sha Allah after seeing the things of others, then we are protected from the evil eye and instead of jealousy, love is born in our heart.
