Interesting facts related to the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA)
Hazrat Ali Shahadat, Sometimes such questions arise in the heart of a person that while searching for answers we go through the lanes of history. The same thing happened with me. In my childhood, when I used to listen to stories from my grandfather at night in a gathering like Chaupal, once he mentioned the bravery of Hazrat Ali (RA) and his martyrdom. At that time I just kept listening in shock, but could not understand how a person could be so brave, so noble and so humane, and yet become a victim of the sword of enemies.
I still remember, my grandfather laughingly said – “Ali was not just the lion of God, but he was that book of humanity, the more you read, the more new learnings you get from it.” This very thing of his touched my heart. And perhaps that is why whenever I hear the mention of the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA), a strange pang arises in some corner of the heart.
So, today I will make you a part of that story. But don’t worry, I will not speak heavy like books. I will talk from the heart, as if we are sitting and chatting over a cup of tea.
Who was Hazrat Ali (RA) – An example of humanity
Hey brother, if you are asked who is the bravest person in the world, then perhaps you will name your childhood hero. For me, he has always been Hazrat Ali (RA). Why? Because bravery is not just about wielding a sword, but about standing firm on the truth.
On hearing the name of Hazrat Ali (RA), the first thought that comes to mind is – Sher-e-Khuda (Lion of Allah). But think, why was a person called a lion? Because he never supported lies, no matter how tough the circumstances became.
One thing is most visible in his life – justice. He used to dispense justice as a Qazi and also as a Khalifa. Sometimes I think, if he were alive today, our courts would work so quickly.
The night of martyrdom – when Ibn Muljim attacked
Now be careful, because reading this part your eyes may become moist. Hazrat Ali (RA) was offering Fajr Namaaz in Masjid-e-Kufa on the night of the 19th of Ramzan, 40 Hijri. At that very moment a Khaarizi named Ibn Muljim came with a sword.
Just imagine, a person who is bowing before Allah, engrossed in Namaaz, is attacked from behind. Can any other admirer imagine such a scene?
Ibn Muljim’s poisonous sword struck Hazrat Ali’s (RA) head. Blood flowed out, but on Ali’s (RA) lips were those words which shake the heart even today –
“Fuztu wa Rabbil Kaaba”
(By the Lord of Kaaba, I have succeeded.)
Can you imagine? A man standing on the brink of death, and still talking about victory. This was the real identity of Hazrat Ali (RA).
21st Ramzan – When the world cried
For two days Hazrat Ali (RA) kept fighting with his wounds. There was pain on his face, but his patience was much greater than that. When his soul left this world on 21st Ramzan, there was mourning in the streets of Kufa.
When I hear this story, I always think – that day both the earth and the sky must have mourned. People say that even the walls of the mosque trembled during the prayers.
His martyrdom was not just the loss of a human being, but the loss of the voice of justice and truth.
The fate of Ibn Muljim – Ali’s justice
Now here one thing is very interesting. When Ibn Muljim was caught, people wanted to kill him immediately. But Hazrat Ali (RA) said –
“If I live, I will decide what punishment to give. And if I die, then live only to the punishment he has given.”
Just think, talking about justice even while standing close to death! Can you and I do this? I will never be able to do it. This is why he is called the symbol of Adal (justice).

It is necessary to do justice, even if there is an enemy.
It is useless to fear death, the real victory is in the will of Allah.
And the most important thing – power is not in the sword, but in patience and justice.
